Louise Rooney – Wins RRC London Marathon Place

Winning a club place through the RRC ballot for this year’s London Marathon left me feeling surprised, excited, and honestly a bit overwhelmed. Having run it before in 2018—the hottest on record—I was curious to see what I could achieve this time around.

Training wasn’t without its challenges. There were plenty of ups and downs, moments of doubt, and a few niggles and injuries along the way. But standing on that start line, I felt ready.

Running through the streets of London in the sunshine is something truly special. The atmosphere was electric for most of the course, though miles 18–20 felt a little quieter. That’s when I focused on visualising the finish along The Mall and kept pushing forward.

Seeing fellow RRC members, as well as family and friends along the route, gave me the boost I needed to keep going. By the finish, my body was aching and my feet were sore—but it was all worth it.

I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to run the London Marathon again, and even more so to have raised funds for two fantastic charities, Orchyd and Phab.

I said “never again”… but we’ll see! X
